Cancer Screenings
As science gets better and better, doctors have a clearer understanding of an individual’s cancer risks. At your yearly visit or cancer screening visit, the physician or nurse practitioner will review your personal and family history and discuss with you recommended and optional screening tests. The routine screenings are pap and HPV tests to assess cervical cancer risk, pelvic exams, breast exams and skin exams. We will order a mammogram or colonoscopy. Lab testing like the CA-125 (ovarian cancer) and BRCA (breast and ovarian cancer) genetic testing are not recommended for everyone. Your SOGA provider will discuss these tests with patients who have risk factors and then determine with the patient if the tests should be performed.
